AdminHistoryBorn in 1912, Private Frederick Edward Gold enlisted in the Manchester Regiment on 10 Apr 1931 and served for 7 years with the regiment in the Sudan, West Indies and Egypt. After being placed on the Army reserve in Apr 1938, he was transferred to the Cheshire Regiment on 15 Aug 1939 and sent to France with the British Expeditionary Force in Jan 1940. In May 1940 he was captured and held as a prisoner of war in Germany until Mar 1945 when he returned home.
