Frequently Asked Questions

I have found what I am looking for, how can I view the collection / item?
You are very welcome to visit us to consult the material in person. Our opening times, location and contact details are all available via our website.

Can I get copies of the documents I am interested in?
We can provide copies of some of the books and documents we hold. Please see our copying policy for more information or contact us.

I am unable to visit Tameside Local Studies and Archives to view the material.
Is there an alternative option?

We may be able to copy parts of the books or documents that you require. Please contact us to discuss this. We may also be able to do a limited amount of research for your or recommend a research agent to you. Please see below for more information.

Can I get someone to dome some research on my behalf?
Staff at Tameside Local Studies and Archives can answer enquiries on your behalf but please note that because of the volume of enquiries we receive, we can only spend half an hour on your enquiry. If it is likely that your enquiry requires more research than half an hour will allow, we can provide you with a list of research agents. Please contact us with your enquiry and we will be happy to advise.

Why can’t I find what I am looking for?
We are constantly adding to the on-line catalogue. It may be that the collection or book is not yet catalogued. Please contact us and we will be happy to help.

I want to view photographs but I can’t find any in the on-line catalogue. Can I view your photograph collection on-line?
The Tameside On-line Image Archive is available through a separate service – see Tameside Local Studies to view it. The Manchester Regiment Image Archive is currently in the process of being digitised and will be available soon. Please see our website for more information.
