TitleO/S Map of Kroh Area, Perak, Malaya
DescriptionO/S Air Reconnaissance Map of Upper Perak District, Northern Malaya. The map was used by the men of the 1st Battalion, Manchester Regiment during the Malayan Emergency 1951-1954. The following explanation was given with the map from Mr P. Barber of 4 Platoon, "B" Company who served from 1952-1954: "This was the type of map that was used by the men of "B" Company, 1st Battalion the Manchester Regiment to negotiate their way through the dense jungle and mountainous areas which they had to patrol to combat the threat from the Communist Party troops (bandits). The area was very close to the border of Siam/Thailand as can be seen by the x on the map denoting the border, skill and very good map reading along with compass bearing were needed to stop the patrol crossing over into Siam territory, then if a food drop had been ordered for say the 6th day of the patrol then the aircraft could not violate Siam airspace; this would mean the patrol having to make their way back into Malayan territory possibly missing a day or so of food. The O/C at the time for "B" Company was Major Roy Baker MC, he was a fine officer and a gentlemen often accompanying his men on patrol and so appreciating all the hazzards first hand so to speak."
