| AdminHistory | James Alfred Jowitt joined the Manchester regiment on 8 Jan 1923 as a private. He was posted to the depot on 10 Jan 1923, and to the 1st battalion on 4 July 1923. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 29 Feb 1924, to Acting Lance Corporal on 29 Feb 1924 and reverted back to Private at his own request on 22 Sep 1924. He was posted to the 2nd Battalion on 23 Sep 1924 and promoted to Lance Corporal on 16 Apr 1930. On 7 feb 1931 he was transferred to the Army Reserve and discharged due to termination of first period of engagement on 7 Jan 1935. He later enlisted into the Lancashire Fusiliers Territorial Army and served with them and with the West Yorkshire Regiment during the Second World War. He was discharged in 1943.
