AdminHistory | James Hadfield was the eldest boy in his family. His parents were John Hadfield and Hannah Oldham Hadfield. He was born in Stretford, Manchester. He was commissioned into the 13th Battalion the Manchester Regiment in September 1914 to the rank of temporary second Lieutenant. In July 1915 he was promoted to lieutenant. He was the eldest son of Mr C. J. Hadfield of Chesham Place, Bowden, Cheshire. He was educated at Wadham House School, Hale, and at Manchester Grammar School. He was a sergeant in the school's Office Training Corps (O.T.C.). From France he was drafted to Salonika where he fell ill with appendicitis, which proved fatal. He was 19 years old. |
