AdminHistory | Sergeant Charles Dickens was born 22 Feb 1869. Enlisted in the Manchester Regiment in January 1890 and served in the South African War 1899-1902. Then he served in the Army Reserve until he re-enlisted at Ashton-under-Lyne, in September 1914 in the 12th Battalion the Manchester Regiment. During the 1914-1918 war he was transferred to the Lincolnshire Regiment and then the Liverpool Regiment, serving as a Lance Sergeant then Sergeant. By 1918 he was at the King's Lancashire Military Convalescent Hospital, Blackpool, in the W.C.L.C. Labour Corps. |
