AdminHistory | His initial training was at Hadrian's Camp at Carlisle and he was a Private. He joined the 1st Battalion in Berlin at the end of May 1950. He had driving lessons on the running track of the Olympic Stadium. The battalion returned to Ashton-under-Lyne in February 1951 and then left for Singapore. After two months he was sent to North Malaya to or near a small town named Sungie Pantanie in Kedah State. In 1952, he volunteered to take part on a cook's course and was sent to Singapore for eight weeks, and then returned to his company which had moved to the Cameron Highlands in Perak State. The battalion returned to the UK in June 1954 and were posted back to Berlin. He was released on 3rd March, 1955. John Harding emigrated to Australia in around 1966, where he was still based in 1984 where the collection ends. |
