Description | Eighty unofficial snap-shots of 1st Battalion, mainly "C" Comany in Malaya from 1951-1954 collected by John Harding. The majority of the photographs are of his comrades and friends relaxing and fooling around for the camera; many of the photos have notes written on the reverse giving details of the location, soldiers names and a brief account of army life in Malaya and are humourous in tone. The soldiers named are; Cliff Holland (two portrait photos), Private Guntripp (one portrait photo), Private Geoff Payne (one individual photo and several group photos), Private Burke (one photo), Private Edwards (several photos with John Harding). The following men are included in several group photographs, including five of the six men who were killed in June, 1952; Private Arands, Private Harrison, Private Traynor, Private Smith, Private Baillie, Bill Jarvis, Corporal Paddy 'Spud' Murphy, Sargeant Buckley, officer Peter Adcock, Lieutenant Duckworth, Bert Hall, Jack Carney, Nick Rhodes and Doctor Smith. They are taken at camps in Tepah and the Cameron Highlands, in the jungle, and one of a Ghurka camp. There are nine photos of local Malay people including those who worked as gardeners at the camps. There are ten photos of John Harding and his time as a cook with fellow cooks in barracks and mess areas and standing outside the headquarters, Army Catering Corps, Training Centre, Far East.
