AdminHistoryRobert 'Rex' King-Clark was born on 27 November 1913. He served in the Manchester Regiment from 1934. He became a pilot and flew a Miles Whitney Straight aircraft. This took him to Egypt, Singapore and Bali. In 1937, he flew aerial reconnaissance flights over Benghazi in Africa. The photographs he took at this time were later used by the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. During 1936-1938, he commanded one of Orde Wingate's three Special Night Squads in Palestine. He fought Arab guerillas and was awarded the Military Cross. He served in France during the Second World War and fought in the Battle of France and was evacuated from Dunkirk. He later fought in the Battle of Kohima. His accounts of this time have been published as "The Battle for Kohima" and "Forward From Kohima". He was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1942 and Major in 1947, although he was already acting in that rank. He retired from the Manchester Regiment in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1958.
