AdminHistory | Arthur Jones, also known as 3525679 Sergeant Arthur Phillips 1st Battalion the Manchester Regiment. Arthur was born in Glossop, Derbyshire and served as a regular soldier for 23 years. He enlisted in the Manchester Regiment on 21 Jul 1932. He served in the West Indies, Egypt, Cyprus, Palestine, Singapore and Germany. He was captured by the Japanese and was a Prisoner of War between 15 Feb 1942 and 4 Nov 1945, during which time he worked on the Burma / Siam Railway. He transferred to the Royal Army Pay Corps on 2 Jan 1951. Arthur served overseas again with the 1st Battalion the Manchester Regiment as their Regimenatal Pay Sergeant in Malaya from 25 Jul 1951 to 25 May 1954. He retired from the army on 18 Jun 1955. |
