Willmott that 'baby' (his youngest sister) had whooping cough but is now well as are his sister Edna and his mother and father. His father has bought a pair of "eyeglasses" as his old glasses made him look like "..Crippen the murderer." Writer also tells Cpl. Willmott that his father has arranged for cigarettes to be sent to him (Cpl. Willmott) on a regular monthly basis via Martin's Ltd., London. Similarly he will be sent another personal parcel from his family every three months. The writer tells Cpl. Willmott about "...a ripping girl..." who works in munitions who he has been "courting". The writer also complains that he has no one "to pal with" as all his friends have now joined up. He also tells Cpl. Willmott that "..it makes me fell as though I'd like to join the army but at present I'm not chancing it. My time will come soon enoughnow also the war's rather hot at present." The writer tells Cpl. Willmott that he has met [Tich] Dell and that he (the writer) is very busy at work. He describes the state of the theatre in Manchester and tells Cpl. Willmott that he and a friend did "...a turn on the Palladium..." and goes on to list prices of admission to the Palladium. He also discusses football and (Manchester) City's progress. Tells Cpl. Willmott that Aunt Polly would like a postcard from him. |
