In the index the numeral and letter preceding the Tenant's name refer to the Number of the Holding and the Sheet of Plans or Reference on which it will be found, e.g.: 1a Saml. Mellor means that this holding is no. 1 on sheet A; and 2c Wm. S. Bardsley is no. 2 on sheet C and so on".
