| AdminHistory | Since 2005 the Mancunian Reunion Project has been working to bring Hattersley residents together to share memories of their Manchester roots, and their experiences of building a life in a new community. The first residents of Hattersley moved into their new homes in May 1963. They had come from Manchester as part of the post-war housing clearance programme that saw over a third of Mancunians move from areas close to the city centre to purpose built estates on the edge of the city. Information on this important part of Tameside's history was missing from the local archives. At a series of events and community workshops Hattersley residents decided that they wanted to preserve their local history. From these workshops the Mancunian Reunion Project came into being and the collection of memories of people who had moved to Hattersley in the 1960s and early 1970s began.
The Mancunian Reunion Project was run by Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership in partnership with Tameside Libraries and supported by a steering group of 12 residents who acted as Ambassadors for the project. Since the first event in 2005 at Hattersley Library over 200 Hattersley residents have got involved with the project.
The Mancunian Reunion Project had many aims, some have been achieved and some are still ambitions. These included producing a book of memories; creating a film about Hattersley; holding an exhibition; creating a sustainable social group; meeting other Mancunians who had been part of the housing clearance programme; finding a permanent place for heritage material in Hattersley; creating some community artwork. |

| CustodialHistory | The archive was created by the project officers and residents of Hattersley who took part in the project. Accession records for all items acquired from residents and for the oral history interviews conducted were completed by the project staff and should be referred to as part of the provenance of this collection. Also a large collection of photographs of the comprehensive school donated to the project via the Harehill Pub. |
| Physical Description | The majority of the records in this collection are traditional archival formats, such as paper records, photographs, news cuttings etc. There is one DVD containing electronic files relating to the administration of the project. |
